Assistant Dean for Research, Grainger College of Engineering
Laurel Passantino works to grow the research enterprise across all departments and institutes in The Grainger College of Engineering. Specifically, she assists faculty by helping cultivate relationships with Federal and industry sponsors, encouraging cross-campus collaborations, developing compelling narratives for research proposals, and forming new centers and institutes. Laurel joined the Grainger College in 2020. She has worked in the academic research environment to identify, pursue, and secure large-scale interdisciplinary grants since 2013, and she has an additional 10 years of experience as a practicing civil engineer in the private sector. She is a licensed Professional Engineer and a certified Project Management Professional. Laurel holds BS and MS degrees in civil engineering from Duke University and University of New Hampshire, respectively, and a PhD in sustainability engineering from Arizona State University.
